  2. To give voice to the graduate students at the University of Virginia by promoting their needs, defending their rights, advancing their interests, and celebrating their successes.
  3. To promote the dignity of our work and scholarship by ensuring that the University provide the necessary resources, training, and services to make us better scholars, better researchers, and better teachers.
  4. To ensure that graduate students have an active and democratic role in the university’s decision-making processes, particularly for those decisions that affect graduate student life.
  5. To maintain the vision, leadership and organization necessary to be an effective, democratic and united organization.
  6. To join with other graduate students, as well as undergraduate students, faculty and staff at the University of Virginia, and with workers in the communities of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and the state of Virginia, to promote both justice and knowledge, and to encourage the university to be a good citizen of the community.
  7. To fight against all forms of discrimination and harassment at the University of Virginia and within the community, including, but not limited to, discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, class, sexual orientation, physical and mental handicap, and political belief.
